Fernando "Ferocious" Vargas Boxing Career
Fernando's first world title came at the age of 21 in the year 1998, when he completely knocked out his contender "Yori Boy" Campas in just 7 rounds, to become the youngest junior middleweight champion in world of boxing history.
But Vargas didn't get much time to celebrate his success as he soon lost that title to Felix Trinidad in the year 2000. Although that fight started with Fernando dominating Trinidad till round 4 but then Felix got into serious action and the match was stopped in round 12.

Fernando however did find out a fabulous way of recovering his title later by beating his previous wrangling equal, Jose Flores, to unanimously win the WBA's world title, by a knockout in 7.
But no sooner did he win this title, he was about to lose it again to his cunning contender Oscar De La Hoya. This was another great fight between the two super fighters where Oscar knocked him out in11 rounds.
Except for Campas and Flores, Fernando's other losing contenders include previous world title holders Raul Marquez and Winky Wright, who is also the current IBF world champion.
There have been allegations of Fernando to be allegedly involved in Steroids usage in the year 2000, just before his match with the famous Oscar de la Hoya. Investigations for the case were still going on.
Fernando's pro boxing career record stands shining with 24 wins, all by knockouts, and only 2 losses. His those 2 losses, one to Felix Trinidad and the other to Oscar De La Hoya continue to be his career's only major beats but he still continues to be a favorite with American cable TV.

Vargas continued his winnings by knocking out his contender Tony Marshall on December 12, in the seventh round.

On November 20 of 2002, the Nevada State Athletic Commission declared that Vargas would be charged a fine of 100,000 dollars for his suspected use of steroids before the match between him and Oscar De La Hoya.
Fernando's trainer is the ever popular Lou Duva, member of the International Boxing Hall Of Fame, and his manager is Shelly Finkel, who is also the manager for Mike Tyson. Fernando is promoted by Bob Arum, who is also a member of the hall of fame.
Fernando is also very good friends with one of the great boxers, Julio Cesar Chavez.
