Seven of his nine wins came from ferocious first round victories, while the other two wins came in the second round. Calzaghe was known for his hard punches, fast moves, and his hard aggression. In October of 1995 Joe Calzaghe slugged his way to an eight round victory over Steve Wilson, winning Calzaghe the coveted British title.

One of heavy puncher Joe Calzaghe's finest career moments came when he fought boxing legend Chris Eubank for the then vacant WBO title. The fight was on October 11, 1997 and it was a fierce battle. Calzaghe came on strong, putting down Eubank in the first round of action. The ferocious fight ended with a unanimous point victory going to Joe Calzaghe. This was quite an unexpected upset. One year later Calzaghe went on to successfully defend his title against Branco Sobot and Juan Carlos Gimenez.

Another interesting aspect of boxing gladiator Joe Calzaghe's career came in 1999 when he fought fellow British rival Robin Reid. Joe Calzaghe had a personal grudge against Reid for ducking him the first time Calzaghe wanted to fight him and promised victory over Reid. The fight went twelve rounds and the fight was awarded to Joe Calzaghe due to a split decision by the judges. Calzaghe was said to have injured his hand early in the battle and was said to have also been suffering from food poisoning.

Joe Calzaghe obtained the IBF title in 2006 from fighter Jeff Lacey. Calzaghe fought hard and furiously, which made him the victor of every single round of the battle. This title victory landed him some major recognition when The Ring Magazine labeled him the "super middleweight champion."

One particular bloody war that Joe Calzaghe fought came in October of 2006 against vicious Sakio Bika. The fight proved to be a dirty one, and a bloody one, as Bika busted open Calzaghe's eye with several headbutts. Joe Calzaghe came away the victor of this two-man war by decision.

Joe Calzaghe's next huge career move came in May of 2007 with a unification bout for the WBO, WBA, WBC, and Ring magazine super middleweight champion titles being on the line. Calzaghe's victory came from a unanimous decision, and officially made Joe Calzaghe the first undisputed super middleweight champion of the world. This victory is what launched Calzaghe into the halls of boxing history as one of the best fighters to set foot in the ring. Calzaghe is about to meet Bernard Hopkins in the ring on April 19, 2008.
