Born on July 30, 1976 in Gurrero Negro, Bajra Sur, Julio Cesar Gonzalez Ibarra is a professional Mexican boxer. This 31 year old Mexican star is also a light-heavyweight champion. In spite of living in United States all along, Julio Gonzalez calls himself a Mexican and is proud to be a Mexican local. Gonzalez has played a total of 42 matches till now, out of which he has won 39 and lost 4. With a 23Knockouts delivered to his opponent, Gonzalez is a player with orthodox stance. With his victory over WBO champion Darius Michalczewski (in Hamburg's Color Arena) for the title of light heavy weight championship on October 18th 2003, Gonzalez become first Mexican boxer to hold the title. Julio Gonzalez has a wife and two young sons (Julio Jr, 5 and Anthony 2). With promoter Bob Arum, this Mexican star plans to climb up the biggie titles too.

Julio Cesar Gonzalez Boxing Career

After winning 21 matches, Gonzalez got his first big break on 5th may, 2000 with a match against Mexican Jesus Ruiz for WBC Fecarbox regional belt. By defeating the opponent in the 9th round Julio began a journey of victories, as he won five more matches in a row. On February 2001, Gonzalez beat up his opponent Julian Leeterlough to win regional titles like WBO NABO and the IBA continental.

The series of success after the year 2000 led him to top contender position for big titles and many boxing fans were amazed to see that Gonzalez covered this journey so soon, as he made a professional beginning in year 1997. With him becoming a household name in the boxing world, Gonzalez earned a good amount of fan following, as tickets to his match were sold easily among boxing lovers.

With the beginning of his top matches, Julio got his chance against world light heavy weight star Roy Jones Jr, on 28th July, 2001. But, Julio was unable to match up his opponent and lost to him. Before winning the title WBO world light heavy weight championship against the undefeated Michalczewski, Julio got a come back chance in 24 January 2003, as he faced ex- world champion Glencoffe Johnson in a fight that was ran for 10 long rounds.
