Puerto Rican boxer, Miguel Angel Cotto (born on October 29, 1980) is current welterweight champion (world boxing association). This 26 year old boxer has a family history of boxing with his father (Miguel Cotto Sr.), his brother (Jose Miguel Cotto), Uncle Evanelista Cotto) and cousin (Abner Cotto) involved in the world boxing.

Using defense as his stance, cotto become a big name in the boxing industry by playing 30 matches and wining each of them in his professional career. Out of these 30 matches he played and won, 25 comes from straight Knockouts of his opponents. Miguel Cotto, also known as Junito, became a class amateur player as he won various competitions on international stage. During his amateur career, 'junito' Cotto represented his country at the Sydney Olympics (2000), junior world championship (1998) and Cotto also played many Light welterweight and Lightweight divisions at international level games such as Pan American Games (1999) and summer Olympics (2000).

Miguel 'Junito' Cotto Boxing Career

After a successful amateur career, Cotto entered in his professional career in 2001by defeating Jason Doucent on February 23 and never looked back. Before going to welterweight division, Miguel Cotto defended WBO junior welterweight championships for six times which he had won against Kelson Pinto on 11 September, 2004. With the ascendant success in his professional career, Cotto was becoming a big name but in 2001 when Cotto suffered serious injuries due to a car accident he jeopardized his career as a boxer. Soon after his recovery, Miguel Cotto was back in track with his continuous win against his opponents in various matches.

Some of the current matches of his career are as follows: In 2006 after retaining his WBO title, Miguel Cotto moved over to welterweight championship and won the world boxing association welterweight championship by defeating his opponent Carlos Quintana by TKO (technical knockout), On 3 March, 2007 Cotto fought against Oktay Urkal to retain his WBA welterweight's title, on 9 June 2007 he again defended his WBA welterweight title by technical knockout of his opponent Zab Judah in a controversial decision. His latest match is a much anticipated fight against Shane 'Sugar' Mosley (four time world champion) at the Madison Square Garden (New York). This Cotto Mosley clash will be witnessed by fans on the 10th of November and is being promoted by Top Rank (cotto's promotion company) and Golden Boy Promotion (Mosley's promotion company) as decided in a legal agreement. This match of Cotto will also be aired by HBO channel (pay-per-view).
