Two years ago, in their first fight, Woods had taken over Julio Gonzalez and was declared a clear winner, although he felt that he could have put up a better fight, but he suffered a troublesome injury on his left elbow which made him take up painkilling injections and a proper treatment resulting in a break from his passion, boxing.
With a surgery on October 6th, Clinton Woods returned after completing his three month medical training session but was still disturbed by his injury enough to reshuffle his first match of 2007. Reason that put Clinton Woods career on hold was his painful injury called golfer's elbow which caused him a sore and stiff elbow.
On the other hand, former WBO Champion Gonzalez also came along as tough as he could, especially confident with his maximum wins throughout his career with the only losses against the great boxers like Roy Jones JR. but the 1st match between the two titans did not go as Gonzalez had thought, as he came out adding one more loss to his list, to Clinton, in the 1st defense of his title.

So this time, Gonzalez was all set to win this title and declared to all his fans that he was better and back to his best this time. Clinton on the other hand declared to officially too that he was back and fitter than ever before, especially after his long break.
Round one of the match passed with Gonzalez looking under stress from Clinton Woods as he landed some good shots, but the second and third round saw Gonzalez in a good form fighting back as Woods got all caught up in a couple of good shots back.
With this ongoing aggressive set of punches and shots, the end of round eight saw Woods has sustained a scratch on the left brow while Gonzalez gets a cut on the right brow by the end of round eleven.
With the end of the twelfth round, Woods wins a unanimous decision by 117-111, 116-112 and 115-113 to maintain the IBF Light Middleweight title for the fourth time and is lifted up by Dennis Hobson.
