Web Design

Before I'll get into the whole Web Design term, I would like to separate between two main subjects: the means and the goal. Today, most designers have a treble difficulty to separate the two and as a result, we tend to see many web design projects which go to waste. The designers, or more accurate, the web design firm, take the design spec as their main objective (the end or goal) instead of the alternative. By using the word alternative, I actually mean that the web design factor to reach the objective goal is the means. In other words, first we need the means, and then to achieve the goal of the original web design concept.

The Web Design Demons

These two factors shift the whole project out of balance. In order to achieve a web design and marketing equilibrium, the designer must face two of his most feared demons. The first would be the demon of originality; we all want to be the next big item in the world of web design. Unfortunately, in many cases, it tends us to lose our main objective and instead, to create fancy and unfriendly projects to the user. Although a web design may seem up lifting from the designer point of view, it may cause confusion on the user's side.
The second demon would be creating a graphic user interface that is too complex and with a numerous uses of applications, which are usually not very easy- to- use, once again. Let me remind you that it is only when the designer reaches the balance between the content and web design composition, our project is ready for airing. Content alone will not be a sufficient, neither a great design. Once you absorb how the two work together and the relativity between each other, you are ready to create unique web design projects.

A Preliminary Research

So now, after we have established understanding that web design is the means of the goal, we can actually define the term web design and what makes one a designer. In order to do so, I'll explain it by simple words; it is not enough to know how to use all the sophisticated graphic programs or the languages of web programming, but rather the designer must strive getting the user to do exactly what intends for the site to achieve. In order to do so, one must know the whole map of the site; the spirits, the potential users, the products which are suggested on the site, the owner of the site's goal etc. The list is more than long, but knowing the details before starting the web design, will bring the best result.

So then, and only then, you have reached what I like to call 'A Designer's Full Circle'. Remember, only with the right balance of color graphic and content, a preliminary knowledge and creativity with restraint, a good web design will spark the human eye and a great designer will get the user to spring into action inside the website.
